Tinos in September & October
The sea is at its warmest, the light turns gold, and the villages get their evenings back. Autumn is when we tell our friends to come.
Ask anyone who lives here: September is the month we would choose for ourselves. The water is warmer than in June, the meltemi wind softens, the ferries still run many times a day — and the crowds of August are gone. If you are wondering whether Tinos in September or October is “worth it”, this page is our honest, host’s answer: yes, and it may be the best version of the island you can meet.
October is quieter again — a walking, reading, long-lunch kind of month. On good days you will still swim; on breezy ones the trails and the tavernas do the work. For French guests, the Toussaint holidays fall exactly in this window.
September: harvest month
The vineyards above Falatados and Volax bring in their grapes in late August and September — the young wine scene our wine guide describes is at its liveliest. Figs ripen over every second wall, the light gets that low golden angle photographers chase, and the sea holds 23 degrees deep into the month.
The village evenings are ours again: at the taverna you will hear Greek at the next table, and the squares fill with neighbours rather than queues. What to order? Start with our guide to eating on Tinos.
October: walking weather
This is the month the Tinos Trails were made for. The Kechrovouni monastery loop starts at our doorstep in Triantaros; the marble lanes of the inland villages are cool and empty; and on a windless afternoon the sea is still yours. Pack a light jumper for the evenings and you are set.
We are honest about the trade-off: from mid-October some village tavernas begin to close for the season, and the island slows down. We keep track of what is open week by week — ask us before you book and we will tell you exactly what your dates look like.
Getting here, and our autumn promise
Ferries run from Rafina all year (about two hours on the fast boat, ~30–40 minutes from Athens airport to Rafina), and the Mykonos connection — 30 minutes across — links Tinos to international flights deep into October. If a sailing is ever cancelled by weather, we move your dates for free. That is our standing autumn promise: the ferry risk is ours, not yours.
Autumn stays of a week or more get our best direct rate — message us with your dates and we will make it easy.
Autumn on Tinos — honest FAQ
Is Tinos worth visiting in October?
Yes — for walkers, food lovers and anyone who wants the island without the noise. Expect warm days (often 20–24°C), quiet lanes, open trails and a slower Chora. Some village tavernas begin closing from mid-October; we send guests a current “what’s open” list for their exact dates.
Is the sea still warm enough to swim?
In September, absolutely — the Aegean is at its warmest (~23°C), warmer than early summer. In October it is brisk but very swimmable on calm, sunny days, usually around 21°C early in the month.
How do we get to Tinos in autumn?
Ferries from Rafina run all year, several per day in September and daily through October (fast ferry ~2 hours). Or fly to Mykonos and hop across in 30 minutes. If weather cancels your crossing, we change your dates for free.

The wine harvest and tastings, the full Tinos Trails network from our doorstep, the marble villages and Pyrgos, monasteries, and the island’s famous food. Our Journal has a host-written guide for each.
